Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Kigali – Transfer to Goma
Arrive in Kigali, meet and greet your professional driver guide representing African Apes Tours. You will have a brief drive through Kigali city to shop for some essentials and enjoy the beauty of this clean and small city. Drive to Goma Rwanda’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Having cleared with immigrations, you will continue on a drive to Virunga Park and get ready for the next day\s gorilla trek.
Day 2: Ist gorilla trekking in Virunga Park
Our great day of trekking gorillas is finally here! You will have an early morning breakfast and with your packed lunch drive to Bukima briefing pint where you will be registered and briefed on gorilla trekking. You will take through a session of what to expect on a gorilla trek, the do and don’ts before and after meeting the endangered mountain gorillas. You will be grouped with the other 7 travelers and given a gorilla family to visit. The hike up to meet the gorillas starts at 8:00 am lasting for between 2-8 hours. The allowed time with the gorillas is strictly an hour but it’s worth it! You may visit local communities in the evening to interact with local people and learn their traditions.
Day 3: Transfer to Kahuzi Biega National park
You will have a relaxed morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and depart from Virunga National Park transferring to Kahuzi Biega National Park located in Mitumba mountain ranges. Kahuzi Biega is the only place to see eastern Lowland gorillas. The park is named after the two mountains (Kahuzi & Biega) on which the National park spreads.
Day 4: Eastern lowland gorilla trekking
Today you will have your second gorilla trekking meet the biggest gorilla species in the world. Have an early morning hot cup of coffee at your lodge and transfer to Kahuzi Biega park headquarters for registration. You will also be briefed on the rules ad regulations of gorilla trekking to ensure your safety and that of the endangered gorillas. In your group of eight, you will be allocated a gorilla family to visit.
At 8:00 am, start up a hike into the jungle to meet the gentle giants. In the company of armed rangers, hike up and down hill in search of the gorillas. The trekking time may last up to 7 hours depending on where gorillas will be located that day. Spend an hour with the gorillas, take pictures, learn their social lifestyles and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience.
Day 5: Depart to Kigali
On this last day of our 5 Days Congo double gorilla safari, you will have an early breakfast and enjoy your last moments at the lodge. Check and drive to Kigali airport to catch up with your connecting flight.
