Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Your driver guide from your hotel in Entebbe/Kampala and setoff for a whole day drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park located in southwestern Uganda. The 7-9 hours drive via Ankole cattle farms, tea farms, banana plantations, cities, trading centers and kigezi rolling hills is the best pre trekking experience. You will have a stop over at Uganda Equator for photographs and have a lunch stop in Mbarara City. The numerous stops to buy roadside foods roasted maize, muchoma and fruits are an experience of its own kind. You will arrive in Bwindi Forest in the evening.
Day 2: 1st Gorilla Trekking & Batwa cultural tour
You will wake up very early, have breakfast and you are expected to be at the respective Park head quarters by 7:am. Register with the park and join other travelers for the pre gorilla trekking briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla encounters. At 8:00am, you will start a hike up and down hill in search for the gorillas. There is no specific time to spend in the jungle forest but I all depend on where gorillas will be located and the hiking speed of the slowest person in your group. After meeting the gorilla family, spend an hour in their company. Keep a distance of seven meters, be calm and enjoy this lifetime experience. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is home to the highest population of mountain gorillas in the world. The forest is also home to other primates such as the colubus monkeys, which you will meet on your gorilla trek. In the evening, you will visit batwa communities adjacent to the Park. Meet and interact with these traditional forest people who lived with wild animals for all the years before gorilla tourism was introduced.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Enjoy your last moments in Bwindi Forest, you can have an optional forest walk in the morning! After sunrise breakfast, check out and start off a drive to Volcanoes National park in Rwanda. Cross the borders and drive through Kigali city northwestwards to Volcanoes Park home to Rwanda’s endangered mountain gorillas. Spend the rest of the evening relaxing at the lodge.
Day 4: 2nd Gorilla Trekking
You shall have your second gorilla trekking today. Rise up early, have your heavy well-spiced breakfast at the lodge and transfer to Kinigi Park head quarters. There you will be registered and briefed on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. You will be served with a cup of coffee at the Park head quarters. Thereafter, start up a hike through the bamboo Forest of Volcanoes Park searching for gorillas. The trek can last for between 30 minutes to over 7 hours but you are 99% guaranteed of seeing gorillas at the end of the trek. You will be allowed to spend an hour with the gorilla family to take pictures, capture videos and enjoy this lifetime experience. You may also meet other primates in the jungle especially the endangered golden monkeys, which also live in this jungle forest. Having spent at hour with the gorillas, hike down, to meet your driver guide who will drive you to the lodge.
Day 5: Iby’iwacu cultural tour & Departure
Enjoy your morning breakfast, check out and drive to Iby’iwacu cultural village to learn and experience Rwanda’s traditions, norms, beliefs and customs. Traditional dancers will entertain you and you can freely take part in the dance. From there, drive to Kigali International Airport for your connecting flight
