Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Kibale Forest National park
Depending on where you will be, at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe International Airport, the driver guide from African Apes Tours & Travel will pick you up for a transfer to Kibale Forest National park. Leave Kampala for the fort portal district with a brief stop at the spiritual Nakayima tree in Mityana where you will see local people performing rituals and praying to their gods. Enjoy the roughly 6 hours scenic drive via beautiful tea plantations, banana farms, trading centers, and local communities. You will have a lunch stop in the beautiful fort portal, the tourism city in Uganda. You will then proceed to Kibale Forest National park for an overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & bigodi wetland nature walk
Have a heavy breakfast and with your packed lunch transfer to the Kanyanchu visitor information center. There you will be registered by park rangers and taken through the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking to ensure safety. Together with the other 7 travelers in your group, you will be allocated a chimpanzee community to visit for the day. The trek to meet the endangered apes starts at 8:00 am lasting for between 30 minutes to a couple of hours depending on where chimps will be. The loud shouts laughs and hooting of chimpanzees heard from a distance alert you on which direction to take saving you time and energy. Spend an hour with a chimpanzee community, see how they behave like human beings in their homes, take pictures and enjoy this lifetime experience. Besides chimpanzees, your trek through Kibale forest gives you chance to see other primates in this forest such as red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus and baboons among others. In the evening, go for a guided walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary to experience the natural feeling of this environment. Bigodi wetland is home to numerous birds, reptiles,s and primates all at your disposal.
Day 3:Optional forest walks & transfers to Kampala
You may have an optional morning forest walk to catch up with birds and primates waking up. The sweet melodies of birds in the early morning are worth waking up. Have a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, check out and transfer back to Kampala for your connecting flight.
