Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Kibale Forest National park
Your driver guide from African Apes Tours & Travel will be waiting for you at the airport. Meet, greet and briefly go through the itinerary. From there, embark on a journey to Kibale Forest National Park, home to the endangered chimpanzees. Have a lunch stop in Fort Portal city and tour a few attractions in this newly established tourism city. In the evening, proceed to Kibale Forest and rest for the next day’s adventure.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & Bigodi walk
In the early morning, have your heavy breakfast and with your packed snacks drive to Kanyanchu visitor information where you will be registered and briefed on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. Thereafter, begin a trek u and down hill in search for the endangered chimpanzees. Trekking time ranges between 2-6 hours but the allowed time with chimpanzees is an hour. You will also see other primates such as Red tailed monkeys, Black and white colubus, Blue monkeys, baboons, Grey cheeked Mangabey, Mantled guereza and L’Hoest’s monkeys. In the afternoon, go for a nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary to enjoy and experience nature on foot!
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth – Nature walk in Kyambura Gorge
Have a relaxed morning breakfast and enjoy your last moments in this jungle forest. Thereafter, check out and depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park driving for roughly 3 hours. Enjoy lunch at your lodge in Queen Elizabeth and in the afternoon go for a guided nature walk in Kyambura gorge. A walk through this underground forest is a lifetime experience you will have! On a good day, you may see the endangered chimpanzees and other primates, which live in this forest. A nature walk gives you a fresh feeling of the natural environment, an experience you will live to remember!
Day 4: Game viewing & Boat cruise
You will spend this whole day enjoying wildlife and the beauty of this large park. Wake up early and go for game drives in the kasenyi plains to see animals grazing, browsing and hunting. You will see a high concentration of buffalos, Hippos, Elephants, Lions, Elands, Topis, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, and Warthogs feeding and socializing together. Return to the lodge for breakfast and chill as you wait for lunch. In the afternoon, go for boat cruising at Kazinga Channel. The banks of the river shelter numerous birds which include White egrets, Hammerkop, African fish eagle, African Kingfisher, African Jacana, Ibises, Pied Kingfisher, African Shoebill, Darters, long tailed Cormorants and African mourning dove among others. More so, check out for crocodiles, hippos and monitoring lizards normally seen resting at the riverbanks.
Day 5: Ishasha & transfer to Bwindi Forest
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive to Ishasha sector, south of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy staring at the famous tree-climbing lions seen resting lazily up in the acacia and fig trees. You will also see other wild animals you may have missed the previous day. Drive out of the Park and proceed on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The drive through local communities, farms, and trading centers give you chance to meet and interact with local people.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa community visit
The great day for mountain gorilla trekking is here! Enjoy heavy breakfast and transfer to the respective park headquarters to join other travelers. After registration, assemble for the guide on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. The hike to see gorillas start at 8:00am lasting for between 30 minutes to over 7 hours. However, you are guaranteed of meeting the gentle giants at the end of the hike. You will be allowed to spend an hour with the gorillas, learn and enjoy their human like behaviors, take pictures and have fun. Bwindi Forest is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas, which make it a premier gorilla safari destination. In the evening, visit Batwa communities to learn their initial forest life. Traditional dances and songs will be performed to teach you the traditions, norms and customs of these forest people.
Day 7: Departure
Enjoy your sleep, have a sunrise breakfast at the lodge, check out and start off your journey back to Kampala. The drive through Kigezi endless hills and Ankole cattle farms offers you great scenic views. Connect to the airport for your departure flight.
